  i struggle to recommend this site to art friends the way i did years ago because i get worried they'll see, like, princess jasmine-esque stuff day one, and then get upset about having to see that. i think lack of content moderation/management of spam accounts adds to the feeling that Everyone has been giving off lately... it makes people not want to draw there, but then of course less people being there makes it feel even more pervasive. generally it's many problems that are caused by the bigger issue of less foot traffic i think. less people having computers over ipads, or even... i recently got a touchscreen laptop and i was excited to use it to draw here, but the site treats it like an ipad and i can't draw... why we cling so hard to a dying werbsite with only the bare minimum maintenance and sometimes not even that, idk. i suppose there's just no other place that feels like here. i want really hard to have some kind of eureka moment to draw everyone together but that's just not doable at this point :/

  The absolute lack of barriers to entry for registration are too convenient for unwanted sollicitors/plugs and chainbreakers who do fuckall (you don't even particularly need a valid email address). Rooms are an option for those who don't feel comfortable with the laissez-faire (they can at least be made for free and moderated), but they're going unused because the population density is too low for chains to ever get finished in them! Our biggest deficits truly cycle back to modern convenience: no privacy settings beyond going ghost, no account archival/deletion (archival IS implemented in client, which has no mobile function, no fault of Qaz's though), not even a dark mode. That'd bring SOME numbers up at least.. The skeleton of the UI is golden it just needs to be expanded upon like it was in the past. DoD is the eldest of its cohorts (Drawception, Gartic Phone, just for example), so anyone still here is here b/c we've been grandfathered in haha. If we're looking to boost membership, I think the easiest crowd to target is the 30+. My biggest (unoriginal) idea is an app (available open source), ad supported and no more complicated than the client. I've had dreams of making one for quite a while but only dreams. Intuitive mobile design is tricky and best left up to smarter bees lmao. Zed hypothesised once that if a massively popular artist got the word out about this place there'd be tons of eyes on it, which'd be cool

  something i've personally wanted since forever is timestamps! timestamps on drawings, descriptions, comments... i have always spent so much time exploring random chains through clicking on accounts, winding my way into odd corners of the site.. but unless a chain is finished there's no way to know exactly how old it is, which bugs me for some reason. i want to know how historical this drawing is! how long ago was this artist's last drawings? how long ago was this argument? i'll never know. also ZERO account recovery for forgotten or otherwise unusable passwords on an account is kind of crazy. that's something I'd want added. maybe a search bar so i don't have to edit the url of the site to look at my friends' accounts. perhaps a list of everyone i've favorited so i can use it more like a bookmark list... in 2018 i took a computer science class and one of my assignments was to analyze a website for poor ui design... i used THIS SITE and got an A on the assignment, lol. it's just not intuitive for today's internet, i fear. maybe one of us should blow up on tiktok just to start a new DOD revolution! i don't really wanna be a doomer abt it all lol...
