You push everything away because you're afraid of losing it. It seems paradoxical, but if you feel like you're not good enough, that people will find out a reason for not wanting to be around you, they're gone forever. If you push them away, you haven't lost control of the situation like that. Rejection has hurt you so much in the past, that you're isolating yourself in fear of it.
