    @14: Considering 'n' is not a variable and just an unknown number these would be the solutions: http://www.geteasysolution.com/n^2-n=56 ; n^2-n=56 can be expressed as n^2-n-56=0. Of course, when you do this replace |56| with |90|.

    yes but during my exam I was stressed confused and seriously wanted to go home so, obviously I wasn't in the correct think set and when I did see the solutions I felt like kicking myself... thanks Edexcel

    Ah yes I know how that feels. One time I managed to fuck up Bhaskara's equation so bad that I ended up with two horrible decimal variables and just kept going to the end. Then I realized I forgot to change the sign in one of the values and had to do it all over again. I think it was an equation of the form ax^4+bx^2+c too.
