Sometimes it's next to impossible to find a publisher who will take you on simply because there are only 4 main publishing houses in the US and hundreds of thousands of writers. Shop around first. Approach smaller publishers. You may have to pay for something on your own (your own editor, buy an ad, create a good book cover, etc.), but getting published should cost you little to no money. It's the marketing to sell the book that takes work and sometimes cash.
